The depth of polymerization

The translucency of the aura bulk fill material depends on the refractive index of the resin and the filler, two components of the composite.

The polymerization process slightly changes the refractive index of the resin, which is then similar to the refractive index of the filler.

This temporarily increases the translucency of the material. As a result, the depth of polymerization is increased.

After the composite cures, both refractive indices return to their original values. The material becomes more opaque giving an excellent aesthetic effect.
